Heather’s role was to plan and run a short series of workshops for members of a local youth club for girls aged 11 to 15. She enabled the young women to write poetry in response to an exhibition at The Women’s Library, reflecting on their lives as girls today in the context of women’s lives in the past. Heather also prepared the young women for a performance of their poetry in the exhibition hall at The Women’s Library to an audience of invited guests. The project was a collaboration between The Women’s Library, London Metropolitan University and Blackfriars Settlement, a community organisation based in Southwark.
Heather delivered the project to an excellent standard and we were delighted with her work. The young women, a challenging group, responded very well to her approach, and she dealt with some delicate organisational issues with the group’s leaders with clarity and tact. Heather was committed, flexible and energetic, and her workshops were imaginative and focused. Feedback from the participants confirmed that their writing skills and their confidence and pleasure in writing had been enhanced through the project.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Heather for any similar project.

As a Recreation Program Leader, Heather’s responsibilities and duties included program planning and implementation, special events marketing, promotion, and delivery, as well as the facilitation of recreation training workshops for other Recreation Leaders and volunteers. Heather was also very involved in the social components of our programs, working with community members, parents, and other social agency staff in the neighbourhoods in which the programs were offered. This also included the development and implementation of many education courses delivered to low-income children and teens in high-risk areas. Often these programs involved a partnership with Edmonton Police Services, Edmonton Public School Board, Alberta Social Services, and Local Community League Associations. Heather’s vast experiences as a programmer were a significant asset to the success of these programs and courses.
Heather Taylor was an excellent staff member for the term of her employment with our department, with myself being her supervisor for the majority of this term. Heather’s experiences and skills would make her a great asset to any recreation, administrative or educational related job position, as well as positions involving people skills.
